WORKING DOG SEMINARS

Sunday, May 4 & Monday, May 5, 2008

Once again the Working Dog Committee is proud and excited to offer the following seminars on Sunday. In the past we have had great attendance and a wonderful time. So, if you are thinking about some of the companion events, but you are not quite sure what is involved. Come and join the fun! You and your dog will be pleasantly surprised. These seminars are free and open to anyone, any age. Come and check out the fun we have planned for your dogs. Last year we went through over 20 pounds of treats for the seminars. Please remember to bring some high value food rewards for your dogs and a toy if that is their thing. All seminars will be hosted by Becky & Corky Campbell and Mary Speer, unless otherwise specified.

Sunday, May 4, 2008

1:00-3:00 PM Rules, Tools and Tricks of Positive Reinforcement - The Foundation for Companion Events.

3:30-4:30 PM Rally Obedience.

5:00-6:00 PM (to be announced..... check the website)

Monday, May 5, 2008

9:00-10:30 AM The Ten Things Every Puppy Should Know.

11:00-12:00 PM Problem Solving Round Table Discussion.

Rules, Tools and Tricks of Positive Reinforcement

Come join us and learn how to motivate your dog positively! We will discuss reinforcement, shaping, luring, successive approximations, learning to breakdown skills into small steps, and introduce clickers. We will share ideas on how to establish and maintain attention - the gateway to everything! This is foundation training for any activity with your best friend!

The Ten Things Every Puppy Should Know

Every puppy should know Sit, Down, Stand, Stay, Come, Attention, Settle, Be Polite, Bite Inhibition and Walking on leash without pulling. This is a must attend seminar as these are must know commands. We will define each, discuss its applications in your daily life and demonstrate methods for teaching them.

Really Reliable Recall

This is a life/death recall. This recall is for all dogs! This recall will help you enjoy off leash time with your dog. We will introduce the foundation and give you lots of practice!

Rally Obedience

Rally is a blast and we want as many dogs as possible to get a chance to play in the Rally ring. We will go over the Rally Novice signs that cause problems in the ring. We will also set up a course to run through with your best friend. Most Mastiffs know the basic commands and can run through a novice course with very little difficulty, come and check out the new companion event that allows you to talk to your dog the whole time you're in the ring. Your dog will thank you.

Problem Solving Round Table Discussion

This discussion will focus on problem solving behavior issues. We want to encourage everyone to attend. We can all learn from each other on methods that did or did not work to solve all kinds of behavior problems. We want this to be a group discussion and hope to encourage, long time Mastiff owners to attend and help us learn from their experience. We also want to hear from newer Mastiff owners that either have a problem to discuss or a method they used to solve a problem. Everyone has information to share and we would love nothing more than to have the room filled to capacity for this discussion.

Conformation Handling for Beginners

Chris has generously offered to hold this hands-on clinic for you and your dog. Not too sure if you're doing everything right? Want a little help getting the best out of your dog in the breed ring? Well, Chris is just the person to help you find your inner handler. Chris is a former nationally ranked Junior handler with experience specifically with Mastiffs but also with many other breeds. This class is for the beginner handler, we will do run-throughs, go over your dog, and move them. Watching this class is almost as educational as participating so if your not quite ready to take a dog in the ring, come anyway, we are sure you will love this seminar offered for the second time.
