BEST OF BREED COMPETITION
Award of Merit
The judge may award any number of Awards of Merit up to a maximum of 10% of the total number of dogs and bitches shown in the ring for BOB competition. The number is always rounded down. BOB, BOS and BOW winners are not eligible for an Award of Merit.
No entry shall be made at any show under a judge of any dog which said judge or any member of his immediate household or immediate family has been know to have owned, handled in the ring more than twice, sold, held under lease or boarded within one year prior to the date of the show. The above will apply to judges of sweepstakes or futurities held with licensed or member shows exactly as it does to judges of regular competition at shows."
Rules Applying to Registration and Dog Shows, Oct. 1, 1992.
"(judges shall) avoid improprieties or perceived improprieties. Obviously some ethical rules are clear. For example, if the exhibitor is a person with whom you co-own dogs. The key is to avoid situations that might give the impression of impropriety."
Guidelines For Conformation Dog Show Judges. 9/91
Great Pyrenees Club of America, Inc.. Wed., April 30 - Sat., May 3, 2008
NON REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES
(where indicated)
As the judge's decision in the Stud Dog, Brood Bitch & Brace classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, none of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible for Best of Breed by virtue of having won these classes.
Stud Dog Class-For Stud Dog and at least two of their Get, but not more than 4 of their Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under the same ownership as that of the Stud Dog. The Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the Regular or Non-Regular Classes or if a Champion of Record, for Best of Breed/Variety Competition or may be entered for Stud Dog Class only at the regular entry fee. The Get MUST be entered in one of the Regular Classes. The Stud Dog unit shall be considered as one entry and requires only one entry fee. The Stud Dog must be entered in the Stud Dog Class and shown in the ring with his Get. Get only to be judged on the merits of the Get. While the merits of the Stud Dog are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Stud Dog must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require its disqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC policy or the standard for the Breed.
Brood Bitch Class-Same as Stud Dog Class except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get.
Brace Class-Effective January 1, 2005. A brace is defined as two dogs of the same recognized breed or variety that are similar in appearance, performing in unison, and presented by a maximum of two handlers. Both dogs competing in brace competition must have at least one common owner. The dogs comprising a Brace MUST be named at the time of entry. If a dog which is to be part of a Brace is not entered in another class it must be entered for "Brace Class Only". In making entries for "Brace Class Only" full particulars must be given for each dog on individual regular entry forms. An entry form for a dog entered in another class and entered as part of a Brace MUST be marked accordingly in the space provided for Additional Classes "Brace Class". If more than one Brace is entered by the same owner, the dogs comprising EACH Brace unit must be so designated "Brace No. 1", "Brace No. 2", etc. PLEASE SUBMIT BRACE ENTRIES TOGETHER.
GENERATIONS CLASS This is a non-regular class offered to all three generation families with one exhibit from each generation regardless of sex, exhibited with the oldest to the youngest. All neutered and spayed AKC or CKC registered Great Pyrenees are eligible. Generations is judged much like the Stud Dog or Brood Bitch class, except that the merits of all three generations are to be considered. The three Great Pyrenees comprising each entry must make up a three-generation pedigree. Dogs entered in the Generation class need not be entered in a regular class. Placement will be first through fourth. A separate entry form for participation in this non-regular class must be completed and mailed to Roy Jones Dog Shows, Inc. with the entry fee of $12.00 for the three dogs.
NOTE: Dogs winning the Generation, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch or Brace Classes are not eligible for Best of Breed Competition; judging of these classes will take place after Best of Breed judging is completed.
For exhibitors who are entering an animal in 6-9, 9-12, or 12-18 month classes, please be aware of the AKC rule that states that a dog's age is calculated as of the first day of regular conformation judging. In other words if you have a puppy bitch who is 11 months and 364 days on Friday (the first day of judging) she would still be shown as 9-12 months on Saturday even though she is actually one year old. These rules do not apply to Sweeps or Futurity which are not regular conformation judging.
Bred by Exhibitor (BBE) eligibility (revised 09/02)
The Bred-by-Exhibitor Class shall be for dogs that are:
*Not Champions of record on the date of closing of entries for the show.
*INDIVIDUALLY registered with the AKC as of the date of closing of entries for the show. (This means you cannot show in BBE with a Puppy registration number or a Foreign , including Canada, registration number).
*Owned or co-owned by any of the breeders of record as of the closing of entries for the show.
*The person handling the dog in this class MUST be a breeder of record and an owner of record of this dog.
*In any subsequent classes (ie Winners Dog) for which the dog from the BBE class becomes eligible, there are no restrictions as to who may handle.

A separate Official Entry Form must be complete in full for each dog entered. Exercises, performances and judging shall be as in the Novice Class. The Brace should work in unison at all times. Either or both dogs in a Brace may be entered in another class or classes at the same trial.

Each dog handled in a regular Junior Showmanship Class must be entered and shown in one of the Breed or Obedience Classes at the show, or must be entered for Junior Showmanship only. However, a dog that must be withdrawn for good and sufficient reason, such as a bitch in season, or a veterinarian's excuse, may be replaced by another dog meeting the below ownership requirements. Such substitution must be requested in writing stating the reason for the substitution and must be accompanied by an official AKC entry form. All such requests must be made one-half hour prior to the judging of any Junior Showmanship classes at the show.
Each dog must be owned or co-owned by the Junior Handler or by the Junior Handler's father, mother, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandfather, grandmother, including the corresponding step and half relations, or by a permanent member of the Junior Handler's household as recorded with the AKC at the time entries close or an application for transfer of ownership must be sent to the AKC by the new owner within seven days after the last day of the show. BITCHES IN SEASON ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. At Specialty Shows, each dog must be of the breed for which the show is held.
Winning of First Place in an Open Junior Showmanship Class at the show may qualify or count toward qualification for entry in certain limited Junior Showmanship Classes. For information on eligibility requirements for limited Junior Showmanship Classes, which have been approved to date by the AKC, write to the American Kennel Club, Event Plans, P.O. Box 37927, Raleigh, NC 27627-7927.
NOTICE: Junior Handlers must include their AKC JUNIOR HANDLER NUMBER on each entry. You may obtain your junior identification number by calling the AKC, 919-816-3776 or emailing juniors @akc.org. Be sure all information is entered on the front and back of the entry form.
An individual listed as an agent is NOT eligible to compete in Juniors, nor is any
person who distributes rate cards or otherwise advertises themselves as handling dogs for
pay in the show ring, or accepts payment for handling dogs. "Participation in Junior
showmanship is intended to encourage Juniors to learn how to care for and present
different breeds. Part of the educational process could include apprenticeship or
assisting professional handlers. Juniors may take their employers' dogs into the ring
while still retaining amateur status"
