BRED BY EXHIBITOR CLASS
The Bred-by-Exhibitor Class shall be for dogs that are: Six months of age or older as of the first day of the show; Not Champions of record on the date of closing of entries for the show; Individually registered with The American Kennel Club as of the date of closing of entries for the show; Owned or co-owned by any of the breeders of record as the date of the closing of entries for the show. The person handling the dog in this class must be a breeder of record and an owner of record of this dog. In any subsequent classes for which a dog from the Bred-by-Exhibitor class becomes eligible, there are no restrictions as to who may handle.
NON REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING SINGLE DOG ENTRIES
VETERAN DOG CLASS VETERAN BITCH CLASS
For Dogs and Bitches 8 years of age or older. Each Veteran Class winner is eligible for Best of Breed Competition. AKC allows neutered dogs & spayed bitches to compete in the Veterans Classes at Independent Specialties
(Chap 11, Sec 8 of the Dog Show Rules).
HERDING TITLED DOG CLASS HERDING TITLED BITCH CLASS
A Class for dogs & bitches to honor those dogs & bitches that have distinguished themselves in the job for which the Belgian Tervuren was bred. Dogs & bitches are eligible to compete if they have one or more AKC Herding Titles (HT, PT, HS, HSAd, HSAs, HSAc, HSBd, HSBs, HSBc, HSCs, HI, HIAd, HIAs, HIAc, HIBd, HIBs, HIBc, HICs, HX, HXAd, HXAs, HXAc, HXBd, HSBs, HXBc, HXCs, HC) by the close of entries. Herding Instinct Certificates (from AKC or ABTC) do not meet the eligibility requirements of this class. Spayed dogs & neutered bitches are not eligible to compete, only intact dogs are eligible. Winners will be eligible to compete in Best of Breed.
BEST OF BREED COMPETITION
SELECT AWARDS
The judge may award SELECT at his/her discretion to dogs under final consideration in
the Specials ring at National Specialties (including the WD, WB, Veteran Dog, Veteran
Bitch, Herding Titled Dog and Herding Titled Bitch). The Judge may make this award to any
number of dogs or to none. The award should be made to any dogs that he/she feels possess
excellence in the Belgian Tervuren breed. The award is to be made after awarding BOB, BOW,
and BOS. (Note: The award is limited to one per dog, so if either the WD or WB should also
receive BOB, BOS, or Select they would still receive only 1 medallion. BOB and BOS do not
receive a Select rosette. They receive the BOB and BOS Rosettes which are the highest
awards to each sex at the show.) Due to the fact that National Judges have asked about the
number of SELECTS they may give, the ABTC Board of Directors asks that the judge limit the
number of SELECTS to no more than 10% of the BOB entry. The Board revised & approved
this policy in October 2006.
Mail Early-Entries Close Wednesday Noon (EDT), APRIL 16, 2008
NON REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES
Please Note:As the judge's decision in the Stud Dog, Brood Bitch & Brace classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, none of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible for Best of Breed by virtue of having won these classes.
Stud Dog Class-For Stud Dogs and two of their Get. It is not necessary that the Get be under the same ownership as that of the Stud Dog. The Stud Dog may be entered separately in one of the Regular or Non-Regular Classes or if a Champion of Record, for Best of Breed/Variety Competition with the Stud Dog class being an "Additional Entry" ($20.00) or may be entered for Stud Dog Class only at the regular entry fee ($25.00). The Get MUST be entered in one of the Regular Classes. The Stud Dog unit shall be considered as one entry and requires only one entry fee. The Stud Dog must be entered in the Stud Dog Class and shown in the ring with his Get. Get only to be judged on the merits of the Get. While the merits of the Stud Dog are not to be considered in the placement of the entry, the Stud Dog must be examined to determine if it has a condition that would require its disqualification or excusal under the Dog Show Rules, AKC policy or the standard for the Breed.
Brood Bitch Class-Same as Stud Dog Class except substitute Brood Bitch for Stud Dog and Produce for Get.
Brace Class-Effective January 1, 2005. A brace is defined as two dogs of the same recognized breed or variety that are similar in appearance, performing in unison, and presented by a maximum of two handlers. Both dogs competing in brace competition must have at least one common owner. The dogs comprising a Brace MUST be named at the time of entry. This is an Additional Class - both dogs MUST ALSO BE ENTERED IN ANOTHER CLASS. An entry form for a dog entered in another class and entered as part of a Brace MUST be marked accordingly in the space provided for Additional Classes "Brace Class". If more than one Brace is entered by the same owner, the dogs comprising EACH Brace unit must be so designated "Brace No. 1", "Brace No. 2", etc. PLEASE SUBMIT BRACE ENTRIES TOGETHER. POLICY ON STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR BY ABTC MEMBERS
ATTENDING NATIONAL (AND OTHERS) SPECIALTY SHOWS
The ABTC has an excellent history of maintaing its Specialty headquarters and show site in good condition. Rings, grooming areas and hotel rooms occupied by its members are expected to be left with no appreciable damage, and as clean as possible, after the Specialty is over. The Club sets forth the following standards as a matter of policy:
1. No dog shall be left uncrated in a hotel room in the absence of the room occupants at any time.
2. Dogs that constitute a nuisance to other occupants of the hotel by continual barking or howling may subject their owners to being removed by the hotel.
3. There will be no extensive grooming of dogs in the hotel rooms. Grooming will be permitted only in the areas set aside for that purpose.
4. No dogs shall be washed in hotel bathtubs, and hotel towels shall not be used on dogs for drying them or any other purpose.
5. The external and internal premises of the hotel and show site shall be kept free of debris and feces caused by the presence of dogs attending the Specialty.
6. The Club will appoint a committee to inspect rooms upon member checkout, either seperately or in conjunction with designated members from the hotel staff. Should any room or its contents exhibit signs of unusual wear or damage because of the presence of a dog or dogs, the occupants of that room may be held up to censure by the Club and shall reimburse the hotel for all damages. Offenders may be censured, held in suspension of membership or expelled from membership in the ABTC should the circumstances warrant.
7. While the ABTC cannot assume legal responsibility for the actions of individual persons attending one of its National Specialties, it does assume ethical responsibility for their actions. It will make every effort to assure that any offending person make redress to the hotel or show site in the event that he/she is responsible for damages to the premises.
8. The ABTC urges its members to carefully inspect their rooms prior to checkout.
All members of the ABTC are expected to adhere to these Standards.
The Specialty Committee additionally requires that:
1. Exhibitors not bring litters of puppies to the Show Headquarters.
2. Non-ABTC members attending the 2008 ABTC National Specialty adhere to these standards.
3. All dogs be on a leash at all times.
